A story about 6
friends in their 20's who hang out at a coffee shop, as a concept, it didn't
scream out laughter or anything remotely valuable, but we all now know what
F.R.I.E.ND.S. really turned out to be. It is probably the most successful
sitcom to be ever produced, adored by thousands of people generation after
generation. We laughed, cried and learnt a few important friendship lessons
from all the 6 characters.

1) Know your priorities:-
Phoebe is a great example of the
ways in which work doesn't have to play a huge role in your life. She has a job
as a masseuse, but she didn't seem too concerned in getting ahead in the world
of massage therapy. In fact, she has several interests outside of her job, and
that includes playing the guitar, singing about smelly cats, helping her
brother and giving birth to his triplets and just being there for her friends
whenever required. To say the least, she was also surrounded with ambitious
people (Ross, Monica, Rachel), but she had the strength to admit that she care
about other things in life. She eventually married a man who also shared the
same value.
2) Follow your passion:-
When Monica insisted that
Chandler should have a job he loves doing, and not statistical analysis and
data reconfiguration, guess what he said? “I Quit” Yes, it is this simple. Life
is too short to rot in an office that you don’t even enjoy going to. Do
yourself a favor, take initiative and follow your passion. After years of
dragging himself through a fairly mundane job, Chandler finally found the
courage to quit and change his industry, even if that meant starting from the
bottom again. Use your experience, insight and passion, put everything in your
new job and give your 100 percent. There are bound to be good results!
3) Don’t lie on your resume:-
When Joey wants to get a certain
part in a play; he decides to lie on his resume to get the desired role. A bad
move on his part and there were consequences. The director of the play asks him
to teach a dance routine to his co-stars, which results in the whole cast
making fools of themselves. Hence, it is advised that you stick to the truth in
your resume, whether it is your skills, experience or qualifications. Failure
to tell the truth can lead to misleading the employers – which will eventually
lead in embarrassing situations and to you getting fired.
4) Stay in the game, know your
strengths!
Rachel is an ambitious woman, after all from working as a server in a café to being an employee at Ralph Lauren is no easy feat. We also get to see her serious side when she finds herself competing against an aspiring co-worker has muscled his way into the boss’s good books after she returns to Ralph Lauren from her maternity leave. At the risk of sounding harsh, the only way to return to your work after a long break and claim the authority you once had is by staying in the game. Keep yourself updated by either meeting a colleague outside for lunch or coffee and to catch up on the latest developments. This will give you the edge when you’re back in the office. You may even consider scheduling important project meetings a week or two prior to your return date, so that you don’t return empty-handed and already have plan of action in place.
5) It’s just a job, not your
life:-
In the final F.R.I.E.N.D.S
moment, between choosing the job of a lifetime in Paris which will take her
away from the love of her life, Rachel chooses Ross. No matter how cheesy it
sounds, as much as your career gives you satisfaction and validation, the fact
is that it is just one component of your life and not YOUR life. Your job is
temporary, it’s there today might not be tomorrow, but what is permanent are
your loved ones who are there to hold you whenever you fall. Cultivate
meaningful relationships with family and friends because they’ll be there for
you.
