  1. TRYING TO KILL LAZINESS IS LIKE TRYING TO DEFEAT DEATH
You cannot kill laziness. It’s a villain that will not die. You must fight laziness like a hero fights a villain, defeat him, but know that you will meet again.

Knowing that laziness will continue to resurface will allow you to strategize on how to defeat moments of laziness. This is something as simple as, putting on your to-do list every small task involved in your goal.

    - Get out of Bed
    - Put on running clothes
    - Put on running shoes
    - Take one step outside the door
    - Walk to mail box
    - Run to the end of the block
    - Run half a mile
    - Run one mile

Think about each step of these as punches you are landing on your own laziness. Eventually once you do the last task, you have landed your knock out punch. Laziness can’t be killed, but it can be momentarily defeated, by us putting one foot in front of the other.
  2. THINK OF LAZINESS IN TERMS OF PROBABILITY
The likelihood of me waking up late go up exponentially if I don’t shut off my electronics at 11pm and start preparing for bed.

Since the morning is the rudder of the day. If I get a late start that makes me more likely to be lazy for the rest of the day.

I am constantly on the look out for habits that increase the likelihood of me being lazy and minimizing those. Because if I can trouble shoot the cause of something it makes it easier to prescribe a lasting solution. So think about the activities that increase your likelihood of being lazy and figure out how to reduce them by 10–15%. You will likely see an 80% increase in efficiency from doing less of the stuff that caused you to be lazy.
  3. GET GOOD AT PLAYING THE ROLE OF A DISCIPLINED PERSON
Drinking a gallon of water a day has changed my life. It helps me think clearer. Gives me a ton of energy. It’s also a small goal I can do throughout the day that invest in my disciplined identity.

There are tons of small behaviors that you can do during a day such as push ups, cold showers, runs, etc. that are an investment in being more disciplined. These activities might not help you move towards your larger mission but they will make you better at playing the role of a disciplined person, and getting good at playing that character will help you move closer to your larger goals.
  4. LADDER YOURSELF IN EVERY MOMENT
If you are struggling in the moment to do something you know you are supposed to do. Just figure out what the first step is in that activity and do that. Then once you have done that, ask yourself what is the next step, and so on. The better you get at create ladders for yourself in a lazy spiral the more efficient you will be at getting out of the lazy trance so many of us find ourselves in on a daily basis.
